50/50 Club

Don't panic - the 50/50 Club costs only £10. Please sign up today!

Have a flutter and contribute to the Society's funds

FREE MONEY!

Imagine being able to extract a few hundred pounds from your neighbors without the criminal prosecution and public shame that usually comes with it.

This is your chance!

The Highgate Society is once again looking for members to join its 50:50 Club – a fundraising draw where half of all proceeds goes to support the society’s community efforts, and the other half is awarded to the rogues among us who are only in it for the money.

We’re being cheeky of course.  Regardless of whether your motives or altruistic or otherwise, everyone is eligible for one of our cash prizes.  From our perspective, the real payoff of contributing to the 50:50 Club is that it provides the Highgate Society with the resources we need to continue serving the people of our community.

Many of you will remember that the Highgate Society began as an outgrowth of our community’s desire to protect our environment and retain control over our local planning amidst the increasing urban growth and the traffic congestion that comes with it.  Today, that remains our core mission.

The Highgate Society is often on the frontlines of the vital but unglamorous work of advocating for our community, whether that advocacy is against unwanted roads, office complexes and public transport routes, or for the preservation of historic buildings and the cleanliness of our overall environment.  When possible, we try to secure government funds to improve our community as well, as we’re trying to do for improvements of the 2012 Olympic cycle route, which will run up West Hill, past the Gatehouse and down Hampstead Lane.

In recent years, the Highgate Society’s ambitions have grown.  We’ve created a variety of social groups, including drawing, wine and French clubs and our, very successful, Social Events Club.  We also continue to plan a wide array of events, from holiday and society dances to musical events and art exhibits.  As always, we’re heavily involved in looking after our community members, whether through blood drives or shopping sessions for elderly residents.

And although the Highgate Society is thankful for the membership dues its members pay annually, and the participation in fundraising efforts we have throughout the year, we can always use more to make our community better for everyone.  To that end, when it comes to a vision for our community, 50:50 is even better than 20/20.

How to join in the fun

All it takes to join the 50:50 Club is a small £10 contribution, and you’ll be entered into the draw we’re holding at the AGM this May.  A £20 contribution enables you to participate in both the AGM draw and also the CHRISTMAS draw that takes place after “Carols in Pond Square!.   You’ll be invited to the annual “Member’s Coffee”  so finally, you’ll have the chance to meet your neighbours and the chance to take advantage of them that you’ve been waiting for!

* * *

On Saturday, January 12th, the 50:50 club held its winter draw.  With Gordon Forbes,  Chairman and Vanessa Whinney, Secretary overseeing, and several members and well wishers  in attendance, the winners were announced.

They were:

1st Prize £60 - Kate Fair
2nd Prize £40 - Alan Taylor
3rd Prize £30 - Christina Nolan
4th Prize £20 -  Richard Waddington
5th Prize £10 - Katie Plews

A check for £275 was presented to the Highgate Society from the 50:50 Club.

And to make sure that everybody left feeling like a winner, all attendees were invited to coffee and cakes afterwards!
